ExchangeAbility is one of the many projects organised by ESN International. Born in 2009/2010, its main goal is to make ESN a more accessible organisation, involving students with disabilities in the activities promoted by the local sections of the Network, and giving them the conditions and the chances with the help of the European Disability Forum (EDF), Youth Agora and the Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA).
The project's main goal is to increase the participation of the same students with disabilities inside the programmes of student mobility.

The new Erasmus+ program gives the opportunity to students with disabilities to participate and take full advantage of the European mobility programmes. Moreover, compared to the previous program, Erasmus+ gives additional guarantees to students and volunteers with disabilities.

According to the statistics, during the academic year 2011/2012, the number of students that participated in the Erasmus program was equal to 0.14% of the total. Although we can see an increase in this number compared with previous years, it still remains too low.

Objectives of the project

The two main objectives of ExchangeAbility are:

  • Increasing the number of students with disabilities inside the mobility programmes. The long term goal of this project is to promote more chances and more support, so the students with disabilities can live an experience abroad, working with the ESN sections, Universities and other experts in the disability and inclusion fields. ExchangeAbility has the purpose to give to students with disabilities the best possible conditions during their stay abroad.
  • Make ESN a more accessible organisation in every level of our network and for each of the activities promoted. Our wish is to give the conditions and the opportunities necessary to make the students with disabilities actively more involved, also as volunteers, helping other university guest students in their city, benefiting from the concept of “internationalisation at home”. Another important goal is to increase the awareness in terms of mobility, education and inclusion of students with disabilities.
